Electromyography (EMG)
Electromyography and nerve conduction studies help assess how nerves and muscles are functioning.
Why request an EMG?
The test may help clarify the cause of numbness, weakness or other symptoms suggesting a nerve or muscle condition. Its usefulness depends on the clinical question from the referring physician.
What happens during the test?
Depending on the clinical question, testing may include electrical stimulation to assess nerve conduction and a needle examination of selected muscles. The tests are tailored to the situation.

A physician referral is required. The referring physician can complete the form and fax it to 514 558-8775.
After the referral is received, it is reviewed. If a consultation can be offered, the patient will be contacted about next steps.
